Biopsy Test in Liverpool
Westside Medical Imaging is able to provide patients who live in the Liverpool area with state-of-the art diagnostic and therapeutic imaging modalities designed to identify any abnormality in the area of clinical concern.
Our image-guided biopsy is done under ultrasound guidance to remove a small sample of tissue or cells for examination under a microscope to help diagnose an illness or medical condition. The result can lead to an appropriate treatment decision and early intervention for underlying conditions.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a biopsy take?
These procedures are usually fairly quick and often take from 15 to 30 minutes to perform, depending on the part of the body being biopsied. Typically, a biopsy sample is then saved in a special type of preservative and sent to the pathology lab for processing.
How long do I have to wait to get the result?
The time required for biopsy results will vary. We have an alliance with Douglas Hanly Moir Pathology which provides you with a quick and quality result that usually takes 3 to 4 days. In case of acute or concerning pathology, they will directly contact your referring doctor to discuss the result.
What should I expect after the biopsy?
Generally, you can expect some pain around the site of your biopsy. This should ease over the following two or three days, and often you will be prescribed appropriate pain relieving medication. You can usually return to your activities after 1–2 days, yet avoid lifting, jogging and other strenuous exercise. For a few days after the surgery, you will probably feel tired and may experience some pain with the skin around the incision possibly feeling firm, swollen, and tender.
Be aware that surgical medications can sometimes make you drowsy, so you should not drive yourself home immediately after the biopsy has been performed. Ask your partner, a friend, or relative to pick you up, or take a bus, taxi or Uber instead.
